The Creative Music Guild is pleased to present three musicians from three cities in Portland for a night of music at the edge of improvisation.

Three musicians from disparate schools of improvisation come together for a night of inspired music. Christine Sehnaoui, an alto saxophonist, is a rising star of the European free jazz scene and a leading figure in the burgeoning improv scene in Beirut, Lebannon. Acclaimed drummer Andrew Drury lives in Brooklyn and has collaborated with Nate Wooley, Jack Wright, Steve Swell and Ruben Radding, among others. Greg Kelley is a trumpeter from Boston who plays in Nmperign.

This concert is presented in partnership with the 2009 PDX Jazz Festival.

About the Musicians:

Christine Sehnaoui is a Lebanese alto saxophonist who has been performing in Paris to great acclaim in recent years. Her main musical partners are Stéphane Rives, Quentin Dubost, Agnès Palier, Sebastien Bouhana and Mazen Kerbaj. She organizes the annual Irtijal Festival in Lebbanon for improvised music. She has also played with Le Quan Ninh, Mats Gustaffsson, Paul Flaherty, Daniel Carter, Wilbert deJoode and many, many more. Andrew Drury is a Brooklyn based percussionist who has appeared on over 25 CDs as well as given over 1000 workshops. He has performed in festivals in Europe, the streets of Guatemala and performance spaces all over North America. His list of collaborators is extensive including such luminaries as Michel Doneda, Jack Wright, Steve Swell and Ruben Radding. http://www.andrewdrury.com

Greg Kelley, a trumpet player in Boston, is perhaps best known for his collaboration with Bhob Rainey as Nmperign, a group that has recorded several well received CDs and collaborated with such musicians as Jason Lescalleet, Le Quan Ninh, Andrea Neumann and Axel Dorner. Kelley studied at the Peabody Conservatory. He also played in the Boston super group Cold Bleak Heart. http://www.geocities.com/greyelkgel
